Jade Buddha Temple was built on 1928 to keep two jade Buddha statues which has been brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen. The two Jade Buddhist statues are not only rare cultural relics but also porcelain artworks. Both the sitting Buddha and the Racumbent Buddha are carved with whole white jade.

The Recumbent Buddha is 96 centimeters long, lying on the right side with the right hand supporting the head and the left hand placing on the left leg, this shape is called 'Lucky repose'. 

And the Sitting Buddha has 90 centimeters high and encrusted by the agate and the emerald, portraying the Buddha at the moment of his meditation and enlightenment.

The building has classical architectural style which make it unique and inimitable in this modern city. It's a good place to go wheter you are a Buddhist or not, the peaceful and trancendent atmosphere adds a kind or richness to our busy modern society.

How to Get There

After visit Yuyuan Garden, other famous tourism place in Shanghai you can visit is Jade Buddha Temple which located in 170, Anyuan Road, Putuo District. To get there, you can take bus 19, 206, 316, 328 or 738 and get off at Jiangninglu Anyuanlu Station.  Or you can take Metro Line 13 to Jiangning Roas Station, then leave from exit 4 and then walk to the south about 5 minutes to the temple.

Jade Temple is open daily from 8 am to 4.30 pm with admission fee CNY 20 per person. You need an hour to explore this place. Don't forget to wear polite dress and bring camera for capturing moment in this temple. Always keep this place clean when you visit :)
