Forbidden City also known as Palace Museum is to the north of Tiananmen Square. It's rectangular in shape, it's the world's largest palace complex surrounded by 52 meters wide moat and a 10 meters high wall are more than 8700 rooms. Forbidden City is devide into 2 parts, the southern and the northen. The southern is a place where the emperor exercise his supreme power over the nation and the northern is a place where he lived with his royal family.

 Forbidden City is heritage from great Dynasty Ming and Qing which built on 1407 and complete on 1420 before the capital city moved from Nanjing to Beijing. Yellow become symbol of the royal family and decorations in the palace are mostly painted yellow, even the bricks on the ground are made yellow by a special process and the roofs are built with yellow glazed tiles. In every corner of Forbidden City, there stands a magnificent watchtower which heavily guarded in the past.

Nowadays, Forbidden City has listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1987, the Palace Museum is one of the most popular world-wide tourist attractions. It's need three until four hours to explore this Forbidden City and if you're hungry, I suggest you to taste Beijing Kaoya near this place :)

How to Get There

Beside Summer Palace, Beijing has other interesting palace named Forbidden City located in 1 Jingshan Fron St Dongcheng Qu, Beijing. I take subway Line 1 to get off at Tiananmen East Station (Exit A) or you can get off at Tiananmen West Station (Exit B), find the Tiananmen Tower and then walk north to the Meridian Gate.

Tips and Trick forbidden city beijing

For you who want to visit Forbidden City On April - October, this palace is open from 8.30 am to 5 pm with admission fee CNY 60, but for you who want to visit on November - March, this palace open from 8.30 am tp 4.30 pm and you only need to pay admission fee about CNY 40. FYI, this palace is only closed on Monday. Don't forget to wear polite dress, bring camera and keep this place clean :)
