Mahamuni Buddha Temple is one of the most important Buddist pilgrimage sites in Myanmar. Moreover, there are maps that wxplain about the spreading of Buddhism across Asia during the las 25 centuries.
Mahamuni Ststue is enshrined in a small chamber topped with a seven tiered Pyatthat Burmese style roof. Mahamuni has meaning Great statue which seated on a very ornate 1.80 meters high pedestal. This statue is covered with a thick layer of gold leaf about 15 centimeters which has distorted the shape of the image.
